Marrakech to Fes Desert Tour

2 nights / 3 days

Tour Highlights

This 3 day desert tour takes you into the far corners of the country, from desert oasis villages to small mountain villages. This tour is well and truly "off-the-beaten-track". Starting in Marrakech and ending in Fes, we will go south-east deep into the desert to the famous dunes of Merzouga, before turning north towards Fes and visiting the relatively unknown towns of Errachidia, Midelt, Azrou and Ifrane. This tour is for people who love nature, and want to see the real Morocco.

The first day

09:00AM

Your driver will pick you up from your hotel in Marrakech. You can choose whichever pick up time is more convenient for you, but we recommend no later than 09:00AM, because there is a long day ahead!

11:30AM

Since you left Marrakech, you have driven up and up, and you've now reached the Tizi n'Tichka pass. This pass is at an altitude of 2,260m, and is one of the highest roads in Morocco.

13:00PM

You have now arrived in Ait Benhaddou, a fortified walled-city and the shooting location for many famous TV shows and movies, including Game of Thrones. There is a lot to explore here.

15:00PM

Just down the road from Ait Benhaddou, we will pass through a town known locally as "The Door of the Desert". Officially called Ouarzazate, it is the last main town we will visit before heading deeper into the desert.

16:00PM

From here we head North-East, and the landscape becomes noticeably more desert-like. The roads, however, are in good condition. We'll drive along Ourazazate's salt lake plain, continuing deeper into the Moroccan Sahara.

18:00PM

Welcome to the renowned Dades Gorges - a dramatic, red canyon which will take your breath away. You will feel very small as you walk between the cliffs. We will stay here tonight.

Overnight in Dades

If you would like to organise your hotel through us, you can select from our accommodation options during the booking process. If you want to organise your own accommodation, that's fine too!

The second day

10:30AM

Pick up from your hotel in Dades, at your preferred time. Like the previous day, we recommend pick up no later than 9AM, because there are many things to see today!

12:30PM

You've continued driving east, and have reached the famous Todra Gorges. This cannot be missed. Walking through the canyon with the cliffs towering above you, you will feel very small! If you are hungry, we can have lunch here.

14:30PM

We will now leave the Todra Gorges, and continue east towards Merzouga. It is a stunning drive to Merzouga, and it is definitely worth taking some photos.

17:00PM

We have reached the famous Merzouga Dunes in time for the beautiful sunset! This is a sight not to be missed, and will be something to remember for the rest of your life. We will stay here tonight.

Overnight in Merzouga

If you would like to organise your hotel through us, you can select from our accommodation options during the booking process. If you want to organise your own accommodation, that's fine too!

The third day

08:00AM

After a memorable night in the desert beneath the stars, we will continue our journey north towards Fes. Your driver will pick you up at your preferred time, but we recommend no later than 08:00AM.

10:00AM

We've driven north and reached a little known town called Errachidia. We will pass a desert oasis called Source Bleu, a water spring surrounded by palm trees. Perfect to cool down! There is also an abandoned village nearby.

13:00PM

We've continued driving north, and climbing, and we've now reached the city of Midelt. It's one of the highest major towns in Morocco. We are about halfway to Fes, and here is a good place to stop for lunch.

16:00PM

Welcome to Azrou and Ifrane, two small mountain villages surrounded by beautiful nature and countryside. These two towns, in particular Ifrane, are famous for their European-style architecture. You might feel like you are in Switzerland! Ifrane is also a popular ski resort.

19:00PM

We are now in Fes, and have reached the end of our tour. Your driver will drop you off at your hotel, and say goodbye.
